Fiat 500
In 2020, Fiat presented the new generation of its 500 city car. The new three-door has been developed on a fully electric platform. The bodywork of the Cinquecento is still decorated in retro style of the 1957 model, while the interior retained the air-layout without a central tunnel.
Compared to its predecessor, the novelty has become 62 millimeters wider, 13 millimeters longer, has added 20 millimeters in the wheelbase, but has distinguished by 47 millimeters in lower height. The easiest way to recognize the new generation electric hatchback is by the “500” badge, which replaced the Fiat logo, and the LED stripes in the hood.
The new Fiat 500 got a brand-new interior with a “hovering” 10.25-inch touchscreen of the media system, a “piano”-style climate control switches and a driving modes selector with buttons. The traditional round instrument panel is still here but now it is a 7-inch screen.
So far, the only combination of a 120-horsepower electric motor and a lithium-ion traction battery with a capacity of 42 kilowatt hours has been announced. The autonomy is impressive: the new Fiat 500 can travel up to 320 kilometers on a WLTP cycle without recharging, accelerating to a speed of 150 kilometers per hour. It can accelerate to 50 kph in just 3.1 seconds, to 100 kph — in 9 seconds.
The car has three driving modes: Normal, Range and Sherpa. “Normal” in character is as close as possible to the gasoline Fiat 500, “Range” allows you to control the hatch with one pedal, “Himalayan Sherpa” saves energy. It limits the maximum speed at around 80 km/h, dulls the reaction of the accelerator, disables climate control and seat heating.
Autonomous of the second-level means a combination of iACC adaptive cruise control with the lane keeping system. The AVAS pedestrian warning system at speeds up to 20 km/h plays the music of Nino Rota from the movie Amarkord. The new UConnect 5 media center supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly, integrates a smartphone in five seconds, distributes Wi-Fi and is equipped with improved voice recognition.
