Chinese company Wuling has introduced a new automotive brand for its home market called Aishang.
Its debut model is the ultra-compact, rear-wheel-drive electric car A100C, which the manufacturer says is primarily aimed at young buyers.
The Aishang A100C belongs to China’s popular microcar segment, a trend largely sparked by another Wuling model — the Hongguang Mini EV, produced by the SAIC–GM–Wuling joint venture.
The new EV measures 3285 × 1708 × 1550 mm, with a 1980-mm wheelbase. This makes it slightly longer than the “genre-defining” Mini EV, though it falls short in wheelbase.
The electric car is equipped with a single 48-hp, 83-Nm motor and a 17.65-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. The claimed driving range is 220 km under the Chinese CLTC cycle.
The car’s interior adopts a floating touchscreen and an LCD instrument cluster. The gear shifter sits behind the two-spoke steering wheel. This vehicle has no center tunnel to increase the space between the driver and the passenger. The A100C also has physical A/C controls and four seats with integrated headrests. The car’s trunk provides 106 liters as standard. With rear seats folded, its volume reaches 882 liters.
The Aishang A100C will compete with microcars like the Chery Little Ant and the Geely Panda Mini. The new model starts at 39,800 yuan (5,590 USD).
