Imagine you want a golf cart. But make it more stylish. Trendier. Electric, of course. And, most importantly, expensive enough to impress your neighbors at their beach house in Knokke or Saint-Tropez. If that sounds like you, the new Amble One might be exactly what you’re looking for. The only catch? It’s anything but cheap.
The Amble One comes from Portuguese startup Amble and is designed as a premium solution for short trips around coastal towns, holiday resorts, and luxury communities.
Whether it’s a quick drive to the beach, a grocery run, or pulling up to an exclusive beach club, it aims to combine practicality with style. Despite its playful appearance, it offers respectable specifications.
The fully electric buggy is powered by a 12 kWh battery paired with a 15 kW (20 hp) electric motor driving the rear wheels. It has a top speed of 65 km/h and a driving range of more than 100 kilometers. It’s obviously not built for highway cruising, but it’s more than capable for local transportation.
Charging from a standard household outlet takes around 5.5 hours, making it easy to recharge while parked at home or during a long lunch break. More importantly, the Amble One is fully road legal in Europe under the L7e heavy quadricycle category, allowing it to use public roads, though not motorways.
What really sets the Amble One apart is its minimalist philosophy. There are no doors, very little glass, no airbags, and no oversized infotainment screens. Instead, it features an exposed aluminum frame, lightweight composite body panels, and an interior that resembles high-end outdoor furniture more than a conventional car.
The company describes its design approach as removing everything unnecessary to keep the vehicle as light and simple as possible.
As a result, the buggy weighs just 450 kilograms—roughly a quarter of the weight of a modern electric hatchback. It also features fully independent suspension, which should provide a much more comfortable ride than a typical golf cart.
The rear compartment accommodates up to four passengers, although some seats can be folded down to create additional cargo space for items such as golf bags or surfboards.
Then comes the price. The Amble One starts at $25,000 before taxes.
For comparison, that’s enough to buy a well-equipped compact hatchback complete with airbags, climate control, proper windows, and far better protection from bad weather. From a purely practical standpoint, the Amble One is difficult to justify.
But perhaps practicality isn’t the point. Sometimes people simply want something different—lightweight, simple, and fun.
