MINI Will Turn Classic Models Into Electric Cars
MINI has announced the start of an unusual campaign called Recharged, in which owners of classic models of the brand will be offered to install electric motors under the hood instead of traditional internal combustion engines. Thanks to the modifications, cars will be able to drive 160 kilometers without recharging, as well as drive into the “green” zones of large European cities. At the same time, vehicle owners, if desired, will be able to return the classic engines.
According to the program, the “replacement” electric propulsion system includes a 122-horsepower electric motor and battery, which together will allow the modified MINI to travel up to 160 kilometers without recharging. At the same time, the modified models will be able to accelerate to 100 kph (60 mph) in 9 seconds. In addition to the replacement of technical components, a new dashboard with sensors traditional for electric vehicles will appear in the interior.
As conceived by the representatives of the company, an unusual project was created in order to give new sensations from driving electric cars to owners of classic cars. At the same time, regular gasoline engines will be marked and sent for storage after withdrawal. At any time, car owners will be able to return the classic units back.
