DAF Kini Beach Car by Michelotti

When Prince Willem-Alexander — now the king of the Netherlands — was born, the former Dutch automaker DAF presented the royal family with a one-off gift: the Michelotti-designed Kini, its name taken from the Bavarian word for “king.”

Its eccentric styling wasn’t universally admired, but as a beach cruiser it fit the role perfectly. Built on the DAF 44, the special beach car was created by Michelotti specifically for use at Porto Ercole, the Dutch Royal Family’s Italian summer retreat.
