Master-1600 (Магистр-1600)
In 1993-1994, a Russian company called Master (Russian, Магистр) built a compact SUV, called Master-1600 (Russian, Магистр-1600). The company was founded in 1991 on the territory of the Kaluga Car Repair Plant, and in 199-199. developed and launched into production several types of automobile and commercial trailers for passenger cars.
Master-1600 was created using components and units from Ladas. The car has a 78 hp VAZ-2106 engine and 5-speed manual gearbox, elements of the chassis from the VAZ-2105; seats, interior fittings and radiator trim from VAZ-2107. The car was distinguished by a short wheelbase – 2,300 mm (Ladas – 2,424 mm) and a high ground clearance of 278 mm (Ladas – 170 mm), which, according to the designers, increased the passability of the car.
In 1994, Master-1600 successfully passed tests. In the future, it was planned to deploy small-scale production of these vehicles in Kalige, up to 200-300 cars a year, but the outbreak of the financial crisis prevented them from selling. The only prototype is still alive and has been seen last time in 2017.
