After years of leading the electric scooter scene, Niu Technologies has gone four-wheeled with its new MM micro-EV.
Still, in dense cities, it’s easy to see voiturettes — those compact, low-powered cars that don’t require a driver’s license but do provide basic, weatherproof mobility.
Small, nimble, and easy to park, these micro-EVs make perfect sense for urban life. Niu’s new MM, revealed at EICMA 2025 in Milan, fits that mold exactly.
The two-seater is built to the European L6e standard, which means its 10 kW (peak) motor tops out at 45 km/h (28 mph). It’s not built for speed, but for efficient, low-stress city travel.
On two removable batteries, the MM offers around 70 km (43 miles) of range, and owners can double that by adding two more NQiX battery packs — the same type used in Niu’s flagship scooters. Each pack can be removed for convenient indoor charging.
Riding on 12-inch wheels with 125/65 tires, the MM features a short, visibility-friendly nose, LED lighting, and a 26-liter front trunk. Inside, there’s a 5-inch color display showing battery level, speed, and drive mode, along with USB ports, a phone holder, and optional extras like air conditioning and a sunroof. The micro-EV also connects to Niu’s mobile app for GPS tracking, anti-theft alerts, and remote functions.
Though Niu hasn’t confirmed pricing or availability, the company’s earlier prototype — the NIUMM 500 — was rumored to target a starting price of around €8,000 ($9,250). Whether or not it arrives on European streets soon, one thing’s clear: Niu’s move into four-wheel mobility looks like a natural next step for the urban commuter market.
