Twike 5
Mass production of the Twike 5 is scheduled to begin in November this year. The way of the Twike to the assembly line was not easy. Production of the fifth generation three-wheeled electric car with bicycle pedals is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2021. But due to problems with the battery pack, the market had to be postponed.
At the last minute, it turned out that the company did not have a battery supplier. Only one of the three possible suppliers remained, and it offered a battery with a smaller capacity than agreed.
“The pre-selected for use in the Twike 5 battery was discontinued a few days before launch and without notice. We had to look for a new supplier who will be able to provide a battery that meets the stated performance”, – CEO of the company told.
According to the manufacturer’s website, the top version of the Twike 5 with a range of 400 km had to be equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 30 kWh. It is currently a 35 kWh unit with a range of over 500 km.
The search for a new battery was complicated, because of the design of the car. The Twike is a hybrid of a car and a bicycle, it travels both on electric traction and as a regular bicycle. Moreover, both the driver and the passenger can turn the pedals (passenger’s pedals are available as an option). The unique pedal drive has several programs that will allow you to do fitness at speeds up to 200 km/h.
According to the official press release, the replacement of the battery will affect the weight of the car and, possibly, the technical characteristics. More information is promised after the “practical tests”.
It is planned to start mass production of Twike 5 in November 2022. As stated earlier, the car will be offered on the market in four versions, which differ in the capacity of the battery pack. In the base version, the capacity will be 15 kWh, in the top 35 kWh, although previously it was about 30 kWh (this figure is still listed on the manufacturer’s website). Circulation is limited to 500 units. The price tag ranges from 39,900 to 49,900 euros. Orders for electric bicycles are already being accepted.
