VinFast VF 3
Vietnam’s VinFast has introduced an electric mini SUV, the VF 3. It is designed specifically for Vietnam. The manufacturer promises a low price, some personalization options, high clearance, and an impressive range. Orders for VF 3 will open in September, but actual sales will start only in the third quarter of 2024.
This is an electric car for the mass market, a potential “people’s car”. Sales taxes on electric cars are low in Vietnam, unlike fuel cars, so it could work out. It has three doors and five seats, as well as “adequate ground clearance” and 16-inch wheels.
When it comes to dimensions, the VF 3 has a length of 125.6 inches (3,190 mm), a width of 66.1 inches (1,679 mm), and a height of 63.8 inches (1,622 mm). It also features a wheelbase that extends 81.6 inches (2,075 mm). For a better understanding of these figures, consider that this model is 17.4 inches (441 mm) less in length compared to the Fiat 500e.
The manufacturer claims two versions – Eco and Plus, several body paint options, minimalist interior with a basic set of features and impressive range for the segment. In general, VF 3 reminds something of Baojun Yep.
VinFast remained somewhat mysterious about the interior, however, it is equipped with a solitary 10-inch screen that seems to serve as both a digital dashboard and an entertainment system. This is complemented by a two-spoke steering wheel, streamlined controls, and a touch of vibrant hues. Additionally, purchasers will discover a back seat that can be folded down to offer 10 cubic feet (285 liters) of storage room.
Power comes from a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 43 hp (32 kW / 44 PS) and 81 lb-ft (110 Nm) of torque. Those modest numbers enable the crossover to accelerate from 0-31 mph (0-50 km/h) in a “brisk” 5.3 seconds.
That’s not exactly fast and the crossover has a small 18.64 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It enables the model to travel up to 130 miles (210 km) on a single charge in the NEDC cycle. When the battery is low, it can go from a 10% to 70% charge in as little as 36 minutes.
Pricing starts at 240 million VND ($9,428) without the battery and 322 million VND ($12,650) with it. Customers who choose to get a battery subscription will find three different plans. The entry-level one costs 900,000 VND ($35) and is aimed at people who drive less than 1,500 km (932 miles) per month. At the opposite end of the spectrum is a 2,000,000 VND ($79) plan for people who drive over 2,500 km (1,553 miles) per month.
