Daihatsu Town Cube

The 1995 Daihatsu Town Cube concept was intended as a humorous take on the Kei Car’s limits.

It was a compact vehicle that stretched the traditional boundaries of the Kei Car class while maintaining its core identity as a small urban vehicle.

The Town Cube was powered by a 4-cylinder DOHC engine with a capacity of 659 cc. This engine choice reflected Daihatsu’s approach to Kei Car design, where the 660 cc displacement was the maximum allowed for the class.

The dimensions of the Town Cube were striking, particularly its height. The vehicle measured 3295 mm in length, 1395 mm in width, and 1990 mm in height. That height of nearly 2 meters was exceptionally tall for a Kei Car, giving the concept a boxy, cube-like appearance that justified its name.

The tall profile was designed to maximize interior space while keeping the footprint compact for city driving.
