Barn find: 1980 Commuta-Car with only 102 miles

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, then this must be the 1980 Comuta-Car. Recently, a very good sample was put up for sale in Morgantown, PA, which can be an ideal basis for a restoration project. Interestingly, the seller named it the CitiCar of 1976, but in fact this is the 1980 Comuta-Car. This is exactly what is indicated in the VIN number.

CitiCar and Comuta-Car look and act like golf carts, but they wouldn’t be as handy as a golf cart for actual golf course duty with no real way to haul golf clubs around. The odometer shows 102 miles (ca. 164 km), so this sample stood without movement for a long time.

The earlier CitiCar had a much cleaner design, if you can name anything related to the look of this car, the “design.” Just look at these bumpers! Many of us know that they contain batteries that used to be under the front seat. And yet – inside there is only one place.

I always wondered why most of these cars have white seats, it seems because in Florida, where they were made, is hot and white color does not attract the sun as much as the black seats. Or maybe the designers just tried to make the interior visually larger.

The interior needs some general cleaning and refinement, but otherwise it looks very good. The dash is filled with buttons and meters and sensors, but most of them are simple.
