1957 BMW Isetta 300
A delightful example of BMW’s iconic microcar, this Isetta 300 is powered by the later and more capable 298-cc single-cylinder engine paired with a four-speed motorcycle-style gearbox. Finished in an attractive blue-and-white two-tone with a gray soft-folding sunroof, it presents as a well-preserved older restoration that received extensive servicing in April 2025.
Originally introduced by Italian manufacturer Iso Autoveicoli SpA in 1953, the Isetta captured attention with its quirky styling and exceptional fuel economy—though sales disappointed. Iso sold the production rights to BMW in 1954, a move often credited with helping stabilize the German company in the difficult postwar years.
BMW re-engineered the car heavily while preserving its distinctive Italian shape, fitting it with the 247-cc engine from the R25/3 motorcycle. The BMW-built Isetta debuted in 1955 and remained in production until 1962. A year later, in response to revised German regulations, displacement grew to 298 cc. Under BMW, the Isetta became the best-selling single-cylinder automobile in history.
This 1957 example underwent a comprehensive restoration completed in 2004, supported by invoices documenting significant investment into bringing it back to excellent condition. Two decades on, it still presents beautifully. A major service in 2025—totaling just over $5,200—addressed the brake system, ignition, and all lubricants.
