1987 Austin Mini

1987 Austin Mini

Sold for €8,100

This 1987 Austin Mini is a left-hand-drive Mk V that stayed with its first owner until 2017, when it underwent a full custom build. The project included swapping in a 1,275-cc A-series engine, fitting a Zeemax-style wide-body kit, and creating a bespoke hood and interior.

Refinished in metallic orange, the car is equipped with a four-speed manual transaxle, 13-inch Minilite-style wheels, front disc brakes, and a Maniflow exhaust. Inside, it features Sparco seats, Sabelt harnesses, a quick-release OMP steering wheel, an Innocenti gauge cluster, a rear roll bar, and an Alpine Bluetooth audio system with a speaker enclosure and trunk-mounted subwoofer.

Acquired by the selling dealer in 2025, this modified Mini is offered in the Netherlands with Dutch registration.

During the 2017 rebuild, the car received its Zeemax-inspired bodywork, while the hood was reshaped with vents and a scoop before the complete respray in metallic orange. The exterior also carries aftermarket lighting, a Le Mans–style fuel filler, bullet mirrors, and a center-exit exhaust. Ahead of the sale, the windshield seal and chrome window trim were renewed.

Chrome-finish Minilite-style 13-inch wheels wear 175/50 Dunlop and Nankang tires, with braking handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.

The cabin is outfitted with Sparco bucket seats, Sabelt four-point harnesses, black carpeting, a heater, and a polished rear roll bar.

The OMP steering wheel sits on a quick-release hub and a lowered column. The Innocenti cluster and auxiliary pods use Veglia Borletti, Smiths, and Raid HP instruments, including a 200-km/h speedometer, a 7,500-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, vacuum, water temperature, oil temperature, and voltage.

The replacement odometer shows 29,000 km, about 400 of which were added by the selling dealer. The speedometer cable was repaired prior to sale.

The audio system includes an Alpine Bluetooth head unit, a Twister Audio amplifier, an Audison capacitor, four Audio System speakers, dual tweeters mounted in a custom rear-seat-delete enclosure, subwoofer ports in the parcel shelf, and an Audio System subwoofer in a vented trunk enclosure.

The replacement 12H-series 1,275-cc inline-four, installed in 2017, is equipped with a Minispares intake manifold, SU carburetor, open-element air filter, finned aluminum valve cover, Intermotor ignition coil, and Revotec silicone hoses. The most recent oil change took place in August 2025.

Power goes to the front wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. The clutch and pressure plate were replaced in August 2025, and a Maniflow exhaust completes the setup.
