Lada Elf / VAZ 1152

The Lada Elf (know also as VAZ 1152) was a prototype of a compact two-seat vehicle created in Tolyatti, Russia in 1994.

The car was based on the Lada Gnome concept car, which had debuted in 1992. Both models used components and assemblies from the Lada Oka, but the Elf differed from the Gnome by having a two-seat interior instead of a four-seat layout, no side doors, and increased ground clearance. It was conceived as a kind of beach car intended for active leisure use.

The front-wheel-drive vehicle was equipped with a two-cylinder gasoline engine from the Oka, which displaced 650 cubic centimeters and produced 30 horsepower, paired with a four-speed manual transmission.

In 1996, one of the prototypes was converted into an electric vehicle. Designated as the VAZ-1152E Elf, it received an electric motor rated at 34 horsepower. A heavy nickel-cadmium battery weighing 315 kg allowed the car to travel up to 110 km at a constant speed of 40 km/h.

The project did not receive any further development.
