FAW Bestune Pony / Xiaoma
The FAW Bestune Pony was unveiled at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show. It is a miniature electric car positioned close to the Hongguang MINI EV and even has the same convertible version available.
In the field of mini EVs, Wuling Hongguang’s MINI EV can be said to be a phenomenal existence, so in terms of appearance, the Bestune Pony adopts a similar body shape, with four wheels close to the four corners to optimize the space inside the car. Its design is quite a bit of the Japanese Kcar style.
The FAW Bestune Xiaoma, a compact two-door urban car, has a size of 3000/1510/1630 mm, along with a wheelbase of 1953 mm. To put it simply, it is slightly longer by 83 mm, wider by 17 mm, and taller by 9 mm than the previously popular Chinese best-selling EV, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV in 2022.
But the exterior design of the Bestune Pony is completely different: the new car will be available in white, pink, blue and other colors for consumers to choose from. There is not enough space for luggage inside, but there is a good solution – the original roof box.
The curb weight of the Bestune Xiaoma lies at 685-715 kg. As for the gross weight, it reaches 1000-1015 kg. The front and rear tracks of this electric city car both are 1290 mm. As for the approach and departure angles, they are 29 and 43 degrees, respectively. As for the wheels, they are 145/70 R12.
The interior of the new car adopts a simple design layout, with a simple two-spoke multifunction steering wheel. We don’t see a central display, instead there is an FM radio control panel in front of the passenger seat. Meanwhile, gear shifting and air conditioning are controlled by knobs.
Depending on the model, the car is available in three-door, four-seat and two-door, two-seat versions. The four-seat model also has some space in the back, while the open two-seat version is obviously more fun. Of course, to create more storage space in the car, even in the center console are reserved for storage things and has cup holders.
The FAW Bestune Xiaoma is equipped with a 27 horsepower (20 kilowatt) electric motor from Shuanglin, which also supplies electric motors to Chery and SGMW. The specific model of this electric motor is TZ155X020, which is also used in the entry-level Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. However, it should be noted that this powertrain is relatively low-powered, resulting in a top speed of 100 km/h for the Bestune Xiaoma.
