Astraux AL

Dubai-based company Astraux has opened pre-orders for its new electric car, the AL. The model stands out with its unusual design and extensive glass surfaces.

It’s ultra-compact, powered by small electric motors, and, in some countries, its specifications allow drivers as young as 14 to operate it.

Consequently, the cartoonish-looking AL is also aimed at European buyers with prices starting at 7,000 US dollars.

One of the car’s most striking design features is its glazing — according to the developers, the doors alone account for 80% of the body’s surface area.

A distinctive round headlight in the center of the front end echoes the circular digital instrument display inside. There’s no traditional infotainment system, but a port is provided for connecting personal devices.

Among the optional equipment, Astraux mentions a built-in projector that allows passengers to watch movies, sing karaoke, or play video games inside the cabin.

A single rear-mounted electric motor produces 13.5 horsepower and enables a top speed of 90 km/h (56 mph). Two battery options are available, offering ranges of 80 or 150 kilometers (50 or 93 miles) per charge. The tiny EV weighs just 510 kilograms (1,124 lbs).

Astraux plans to sell the AL in Europe for the equivalent of 7,000 and 11,630 dollars. Production of the electric car will be handled in China.
