Caselani Type-Ami

The Italian company Caselani, which specializes in retro conversions of Citroën vehicles, has just surprised everyone with the Type-Ami, a parts kit that transforms Citroën’s electric Ami into a retro-styled model with the look of the 1950s or 1960s.

The Type-Ami is inspired by the 1947 Citroën Type H van, which production continued until the early 1980s. Instantly recognizable for its corrugated-sheet-metal design, this van was very popular in Europe, especially in France, where it remained on sale for 34 years.

Its practical design, large load capacity, and simple, reliable mechanics have made it one of the most appreciated models in the history of European motoring.

This conversion kit is offered in multiple colors and consists of fiberglass parts that can be mounted on Ami models using brackets and screws, on both new and used vehicles. The Type-Ami conversion kit starts at 4,440 euros, but with paint included, the price rises to 5,100 euros. Caselani is also taking orders for a fully converted Ami version priced at 11,390 euros.

As can be seen in the images, the fake radiator grille at the front, the new rear apron, and the door panels that imitate the corrugated sheet metal of the Citroën Type H van give the Type-Ami a retro look that is sure to win over many people.

In any case, it is worth remembering that this conversion kit is purely cosmetic and the vehicle has not received any mechanical or driving-performance improvements. The electric motor is still the same 6 kW unit, and the 5.5 kWh battery pack has not changed either. It remains to be seen, however, whether fitting the kit will affect the vehicle’s range, although since all the parts are made of fiberglass, their weight should not be a problem.

With the Type-Ami presentation, Caselani has taken another step in its specialization in retro reinterpretations of Citroën models. The Italian company had already introduced a modified ë-Berlingo in 2022 inspired by the 1950s Citroën 2CV AU, which it named the Berlingo 2CV Fourgonnette.
