DC Design Minute

The 2006 DC Design Minute was a concept car created by Indian coachbuilder DC Design using the Maruti Suzuki Swift as its donor platform.

It was not an official Suzuki project, but rather a styling exercise that transformed one of India’s most familiar hatchbacks into a far more unusual and compact coupe-like concept.

The idea behind the Minute was straightforward: take an inexpensive, widely recognized city car and give it an entirely new identity. Although it retained the basic proportions and urban purpose of the Swift, the bodywork was extensively reworked into a shorter, more dramatic shape with a stronger emphasis on visual impact than on everyday practicality.

Very little reliable technical information has ever been published about the car, and there is no confirmed evidence of significant mechanical modifications. For that reason, the Minute should be viewed primarily as a design prototype built around the Swift platform rather than as a true performance or engineering concept. Its significance lies in the dramatic rebody rather than in any documented drivetrain upgrades.

That distinction is important because, during the mid-2000s, DC Design had established a reputation as one of the few Indian design houses regularly producing show cars, custom conversions, and one-off concepts with styling far more extravagant than typical production vehicles.

The Minute fit perfectly into that approach, demonstrating how a mass-market Indian car could be reimagined as something more personal, fashionable, and attention-grabbing.

The project never progressed beyond the concept stage, and confirmed specifications remain scarce. Even so, the Minute remains an interesting example of DC Design’s work from that era, when the company frequently turned ordinary Indian-market platforms into striking coachbuilt concept cars.
