Fiat 600 Multipla Spiaggetta

The Fiat 600 Multipla Spiaggetta was a unique, one-off beach car created by Giovanni Michelotti for the coachbuilder Vignale.

Debuting at the 1956 Geneva Motor Show, it reimagined the practical Fiat 600 Multipla as a playful leisure vehicle with strong nautical influences and a touch of futuristic flair.

Its most distinctive element was the “floating” roof, which did away with traditional B and C pillars and instead used exposed tubular supports. The result was an airy, open design perfectly suited to sun-drenched Mediterranean resorts.

The Spiaggetta was never meant for series production and ultimately remained a single prototype. Over the years, its whereabouts became unknown, and the car is now considered lost.

Unless it survives hidden in a forgotten shed or private collection, the Fiat 600 Multipla Spiaggetta lives on only through period photographs—a striking reminder of the imaginative, optimistic spirit of the jet-age postwar era.
