Toyota IMV Origin
Toyota unveiled a new compact truck at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in Tokyo. Modular by design and shipped partially disassembled, the vehicle was engineered with rural African regions in mind.
While full details are still under wraps, the model continues Toyota’s IMV Series lineage. Fans of small pickups will recall the IMV 0 Concept, first shown in Thailand in late 2022 to mark Toyota’s 60th anniversary there — a project that later evolved into the Hilux Champ now on sale.
Developed together with Thai engineers for a market that loves utilitarian pickups, the Hilux Champ won enthusiasts over worldwide with its simplicity, rugged design, and affordable price tag — roughly 10,000 USD (около 960 000 рублей). The new IMV Origin follows a similar philosophy but takes the idea even further.

Toyota hasn’t yet confirmed production or sales plans for the IMV Origin, but its semi-knockdown approach is key to the concept. The truck is designed for on-site assembly using only basic tools, enabling local workshops to complete the vehicles while creating jobs in the process.
It also allows for personalization — owners can adapt and finish the truck themselves. Toyota calls this philosophy “deliberate incompleteness,” a nod to the idea of co-creation between manufacturer and customer.
“We just build the base,” said President & CEO Koji Sato. “From there, each customer completes the vehicle to fit their needs. As a carmaker, not finishing this vehicle was frustrating. However, not finishing it is what makes it a ‘for you’ car, because people have different needs in their daily life and work.”
