Presented at the 1991 Tokyo Motor Show, the Mitsubishi mR.1000 was a 2-seat mid-engine coupe powered by a 1.0-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine producing 82 horsepower.
Measuring 3,295 mm in length, 1,550 mm in width, and 1,250 mm in height, it rode on a 2,140 mm wheelbase and had a remarkably low curb weight of just 650 kg.
Mitsubishi mR.1000 uses a short wheelbase chassis paired with a 4-wheel steering (4WS) system that reverses the rear wheel steering angle at low speeds. This gives the car an exceptionally tight minimum turning radius of 3.6m, and crisp, responsive handling.
Gentle, charming, fun. This compact coupe is everything we could want in a small car
For driver enjoyment, it features an electric open sunroof to let you feel the wind, ergonomic seating that makes easy conversation between driver and passenger, an instrument panel inspired by space station controls, and dual analog gauges styled after high-end sport watches. All of these details come together to create a unique and playful interior atmosphere.
Mitsubishi mR.1000 car also prioritizes safety: equipped with driver and front passenger SRS airbags, 4-point ELR (Emergency Locking Retractor) seatbelts, fixed position seats, and a centered seating layout.
The concept appeared in the 1993 movie Jackie Chan movie Sing Si Lip Yan (City Hunter).
