In 1995, Reliant’s new owner, Avonex, planned to relaunch the Bond Bug in updated form. It got the original designer Tom Karen to modify the shape with circular front and rear lamps and a new rear end with extended wheelarches. However, the financial problems of Avonex scuppered the project before its intended launch in April 1996. The only prototype was made.
