Arcimoto Generation 2 Prototype
Arcimoto was founded in Eugene, Oregon, in 2007 by Mark Frohnmayer and developed its electric three-wheelers through a series of numbered prototypes. The Generation 2 prototype was an early step in that series and still did not look like a finished car.
The single occupant is balanced between the three wheels. The vehicle was zippy and fun to drive, yet already a significant improvement in environmental efficiency compared with the standard automotive form. The second prototype introduced a primitive enclosure frame with a roof, giving partial protection from the elements and making it much safer to drive than the first prototype.
The company later counted the Pulse, unveiled in September 2009, as its Generation 3 prototype. Arcimoto listed on NASDAQ in 2017 and began delivering its first production vehicle, the FUV.
