AIXAM 300 / 400 / 500 Evolution
An updated version called Evolution was announced in 2000. The old body shape got a new details, such as updated headlights, new bumpers and some interior changes.
About chassis details responsible for road holding, handling behaviour and ride confort, the Evolution has McPherson struts, coil springs front suspension and Coil springs rear suspension. For stopping power, the Evolution braking system includes Discs at the front and Drums at the rear.
Three versions were available from the factory. The base model is AIXAM 300 Evolution had a 300 cc naturally aspirated diesel. It has only 1 cylinder and an output of 5.4 bhp (5.5 PS/4 kW) at 3600 rpm and maximum torque of 11.6 N·m (8.6 lb·ft/1.2 kgm) at 2400 rpm. The engine supplies its power through to the wheels by means of a 1 speed transmission. Its quoted kerb weight is 350 kg. Maximum speed stated is 45 km/h or 28 mph.
AIXAM 400 Evolution is powered by a 0.4 litre naturally aspirated 2 cylinder diesel rated at 5.4 bhp (5.5 PS/4 kW) at 3200 rpm and 14 N·m (10.3 lb·ft/1.4 kgm) at 2400 rpm respectively. A 1 speed gearbox transmits the power to the wheels. Curb weight is 350 kg. Top speed stated is 45 km/h, which is 28 mph.
The most powerful version AIXAM 500 Evolution has a longer wheelbase (1925 mm instead of 1710 mm). It is fitted with a 2 cylinder, naturally aspirated diesel with a capacity of 0.5 litres. The power rating is 9.5 bhp (9.6 PS/7.1 kW) at 3500 rpm and torque is 28.5 Nm (21 lbft/2.9 kgm) at 2500 rpm. Power is transferred to the wheels through a 1 speed gearbox. Curb weight is 400 kg.
In 2002 AIXAM added Minivan and Pickup versions into the Evolution lineup.
