e.GO Life

e.GO is the German company that launched its first electric car aimed specifically at urban mobility. The brand may not sound familiar, but it was founded by the same person behind the electric van purchased by Deutsche Post, Germany’s postal service.

Following the success of that deal, the company moved forward with the support of German automotive supplier ZF Friedrichshafen, which invested €135 million in the business.

The e.GO Life is a compact electric city car that is slightly shorter than a Fiat 500, yet still manages to accommodate four seats. Its focus is not on long-range driving or high performance, but on providing comfortable and practical transportation around the city.

The entry-level version is the e.GO Life 20, powered by a 14.9 kWh battery and a 20 kW (27 hp) electric motor. That may not sound like much for highway driving, but it is sufficient for urban use, where speeds are generally much lower.

The claimed range is 121 kilometers, which should be more than enough for everyday city driving. The price of this version starts at €15,900 before subsidies and other possible discounts.

Next comes the e.GO Life 40, equipped with a 12.1 kWh battery and a 40 kW (54 hp) motor. Its range increases to 142 kilometers, while the price rises to €17,400.

The third version uses a 12.5 kWh battery and a 60 kW (80 hp) electric motor. Its range reaches 184 kilometers, with a starting price of €19,900.
