Citroën has updated the beach Ami Buggy

Citroën has revealed the refreshed Ami Buggy — an open-air, beach-ready version of its compact electric vehicle. Unlike the previous limited-edition release, the new Ami Buggy becomes a permanent part of the updated Ami lineup, meaning wider availability.

Based on the concept shown at the 2024 Paris Auto Show, the production version skips some of the flashier elements like chunky tires and the roof-mounted LED bar. However, it adopts the facelifted Ami’s rounded lighting units and retro-style 2CV-inspired side vents.

One of the most distinctive features of the Buggy is its doorless design, replaced by rugged black metal bars on hinges. Optional zip-up fabric covers provide protection in wet weather, and a retractable roof panel adds to the open-air vibe. A roof spoiler and 14-inch gold-painted steel wheels also distinguish it from the standard model, although the original Khaki paint from the earlier Buggy version is no longer offered.

A new flagship trim, the Ami Buggy Palmeira, adds black-and-yellow graphics, matching yellow double-chevron badges, and a cabin filled with yellow highlights — including storage boxes, floor mats, a phone mount, and even a dashboard-mounted bobblehead figure named Andy.

Mechanically, the Buggy remains unchanged from the standard Ami. Power comes from an 8 hp electric motor with a top speed of 45 km/h (28 mph) and a 5.5 kWh battery offering up to 75 km (47 miles) of range. Charging takes about four hours using a standard 220V outlet.

The updated Ami range now includes several versions: the Ami Cargo (for urban deliveries), the Ami for All (accessible for wheelchair users), and a Cargo Pack upgrade that turns the Ami into a 340-liter microvan. Standard Ami models are also available with three customizable Color Packs — Spicy, Icy, and Minty — featuring matching decals and interior accessories.

Pre-orders for the new Ami lineup were opened on May 6 across Europe. Prices start at €7,990 ($9,100) for the base Ami, €8,390 ($9,500) with a Color Pack, €9,590 ($10,900) for the Ami Buggy, and €9,990 ($11,400) for the Palmeira trim. Since its debut in 2020, Citroën has sold 75,000 units of the Ami across 18 markets.
